Additional Information:  At the base of the spine, the root chakra represents the body's fundamental grounding energy.  Its Sanskrit name, Muladhara, means 'root support'.  Associated with basic survival needs such as food, sleep, shelter and physical health, it governs our feelings of safety and security.  The root provides stability for the entire chakra system, so it's best to balance the root chakra before moving on to the other 6.
